NLP Article on waiting for your big break

NLP Article on waiting for your big breakLooking around you, have you noticed that people are waiting?

Waiting for their big break

Waiting for the right time

Waiting for a partner to come into their life

Waiting for more money

Waiting to get fit

I guarantee you will fail

Yes, you heard me. I can guarantee that nothing will happen. You can exercise choice and so what you decide not to do is up to you.

I can hear you shouting, “But NLP is meant to be positive! Where is that positive thinking?” Let me say with hand on heart that I am being positive.

The cure for waiting is to take action…..and this in turn means you will create a greater chance to succeed …….and that’s 98 ¾ per cent guaranteed.

Success is a moment in time. Life is for the living and you’ll never now the places you go until you take action.

‘Oh, the places you’ll go’

One of the best personal development books on the market, which has sold millions of copies, is…

…………….Drum roll please………….

‘Oh, the places you’ll go’ by Dr. Seuss

This book tracks the highs and lows of achieving your goals. In the book the good doctor says at one point….

“You’ll be on your way up! You’ll be seeing great sights!

You’ll join the high fliers, who soar to high heights“

…before reminding us that…

“Except when you don’t. Because, sometimes , you won’t.

I’m sorry to say so, but sadly, it’s true, that Bang-ups and Hang-ups can happen to you”

What have you been putting off?

Sure, we’ve all had Bang-ups and Hang-ups, but what are you waiting for now? No scrap that question and go and do something, anything, just do something.

  • It does not matter if it scares you, do it.
  • It does not matter if you don’t have the money; do what you can with what you’ve got.
  • For every delaying excuse you come up with, slap yourself. At least that is an action.

Yes, I understand that today I may just have spent too much time being irritable and complaining.

I almost got whacked!

I don’t recommend the following approach; however, I know it works for some people.

Simon had been going on and on about: how difficult it was to get clients for his coaching practice; how much money he had spent of advertising; how many network meetings he had gone to and how his website needed updating.

Hitting the table as hard as I could, I shouted, “Have you heard yourself? Enough is enough!”

He looked at me with his eyes wide open. Time stood still.

Closing his eyes as he dropped his head to his chest, Simon took a deep breath and then exhaled in a slow steady stream.

Head shooting up, he jumped into the air. I thought he was going to whack me. Instead he shouted “Fork it”, I think, and left the room. This was rather strange as I wasn’t sitting in his kitchen at the time, however, after five minutes I went to find him.

I found him in his office and as I walked in he turned and said, “I am going to have 2 clients by the end of the week”. I left him to it.

I met with Simon at the end of that week to see how he had been progressing. We celebrated his success in booking not 2, but 5 clients by the end of the week. He told me he had spoken to 167 people that week. Way to fail Simon.

“So….be your name Buxbaum or Pixby or Bray, or Mordecai Ali Van Allen O’Shea,

you’re off to Great Places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting. So get on your way!

Now what did you say you were waiting for?

  3. Wish I loved Dr Seuss. He irritates me with his rhyming. Winnie the Pooh absolves me from sin. Phew.
I have, occasionally, done this. Rarely and usually on a hunch. It usually works. As long as you can move quickly out of a room, if needed or are fortunate enough to have 2 police peeps in the room at the time. Poor police peeps. They think I am being nasty. Disapproving looks all round. Not sure who is most amazed when person calms and listens police or I. In my limited experience, the person concerned is not at all perturbed. We humans are odd.
Thanks John for reminding us all that Mr Nice Guy is not always helpful.
