Garrison Mathews Career
Garrison was born in Franklin, Tennessee, U.S. He was nicknamed Gary Bird. During his high school days, he played both basketball and football. He did not concentrate on a particular sport but rather on both. When he joined Lipscomb for his college, he decided to go with basketball. Mathews played well and became one of the top players in the university.
During his junior year, he stood in front and led his team to their first-ever NCAA tournament. It will remain in the history books of Garrison forever. His senior year was also a great success as he led the Lipscomb to the runner-up position at the 2019 NIT. Mathews averaged 20.8 points per game but despite all his efforts, the Lipscomb lost in the finals against Texas.
Garrison entered the 2019 NBA draft with great positivity but unfortunately, he went undrafted in 2019. So, he signed a two-way contract with the Washington Wizards, stating that he should split time and work with the wizards as well as with their NBA G League affiliate, the Capital City Go-Go. His NBA debut came against the Dallas Mavericks but Mathews ended up on the losing side.
Gary Bird signed a contract with the Boston Celtics, but at the end of his practice session, he was waived by the Celtics for poor performance. The Houston Rockets came forward and signed a two-way contract with Garrison. Later upon seeing his performance, the Celtics decided to upgrade his two-way deal to a permanent contract. As of now, everything is going well for Garrison with the Boston Celtics.
