Komodo National Park

Komodo National Park lies 450km to the east of Bali and is around a one hour flight to Labuan Bajo, where the majority of liveaboards depart from. Komodo National Park is formed by three main islands (Komodo, Padar and Rinca) along with 26 smaller islands and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Travelling through the National Park is serene with crystal clear water flanked by pink sandy beaches and rugged terrain that seems to go on forever. There are still relatively few visitors here due to the remote location, which adds to the destination’s exclusivity.    

The diving here is exceptional with cold and warm currents meeting to create nutrient rich waters for all manner of sea life. Diving here can be adrenaline fuelled with many drift dive sites and strong currents and there is plenty to see, including healthy reef systems, pinnacles, walls, mantas, reef sharks and large schools of fish.

There is also plenty to see above water. Enter the …. you know who… the Komodo Dragon, an iconic image of Komodo and also Indonesia. All of the liveaboards pay a visit to one of the islands to get a close encounter with the largest species of lizard in the world. During your stay you’ll find other opportunities to take in the sights on foot around some of the most beautiful scenic points in the park.

How to get there
Bali is the main hub into Indonesia for Komodo trips and a multitude of airlines fly there from all over the world. Many will have one stop en-route with the journey time of around 16 hours from the UK.

The best way to see Komodo National Park in all it’s majesty is by liveaboard with many departing from either Bali itself, or from Labuan Bajo, which is just a one hour domestic flight from Bali.

Stay a bit longer
