Deal with Jack Sparrow[ ]
- Davy Jones: "What is it you want? And what have you to trade for it?"
- Jack Sparrow: ""Well, I have my immortal soul. At least, I'm pretty sure I didn't misplace it somewhere along the way."
- Davy Jones: "Go on, Sparrow. What is it you want?"
- Jack Sparrow: "Well, that will take a little while to enumerate, but I've got it all worked out. Do you mind if I sit down? I've had rather a rough day, all things considered..."
- — Davy Jones and Jack Sparrow
The Price of Freedom reveals that he helped the Brethren Court in finding the roguish pirates and later showed Jones appear to Jack Sparrow and raise the Black Pearl from the depths of the ocean in exchange for Sparrow and his soul.
Appearance[ ]
From Davy Jones (Pirates of the Caribbean)'s page on Villains Wiki
Before he was the fearsome man he was today Davy Jones was once a normal looking mortal man. He used to have human hair that had been brown and was graying slightly. However, after he cut out his heart and manipulated his job of bringing those lost at sea into the afterlife, Jones immediately changed in appearance. His hair turned into squid tentacles and he had a rather grotesque look (At World's End, Dead Man's Chest)
Throughout the films, Jones uses the 46 tentacles of his "beard" like fingers to manipulate objects, such as the Dead Man's Chest key (he shows this during a game of Liar's Dice), his hat (when his ship submerges), and the keys of his vast pipe organ; while dueling Captain Jack Sparrow in the climactic maelstrom battle sequence of the third film, he waves, wags, wiggles all of his "beard - tentacles" at once while screaming in frightening fashion in an effort to scare Sparrow, which, in context, appears humorous.
A prominent sac bulges from under the back of his barnacle - encrusted tricorne. Jones' face lacks a nose, and instead has one short, hollow tentacle called a siphon (on the left side of his face) that acts as part of his respiratory system, capable of inhaling and exhaling, which we see in the second film as he smokes his pipe. Davy Jones also has a crustacean - style crab - like claw for his left arm which is shown to be incredibly powerful as he can snap a sword in two without difficulty, he has a long tentacle in place of the index finger on his right hand and his right leg is that of a crab (resembling a pegleg). He also speaks with a clearly distinguishable, albeit very thick, Scottish accent.
Personality[ ]
Davy Jones was known for his sadistic ways. Proud, cruel and hateful, Jones was a creature of malice. Perhaps a nihilist as a result of Calypso´s perceived betrayal, the only thing he seemed to enjoy was to ensure the lives of those around him were as miserable and joyless as his own one. He regularly mistreated his own crew as well, believing that all humans should suffer through the afterlife with much pain; this is backed up by his proclamation of "Life is cruel. Why should the afterlife be any different?".
However, he has some inches of humanity left in him, as he still loves Calypso and has emotions. Apparently, he keep s his end of the bargain with his deals. Once is that he allows others to join his crew by saving him or her from death.
At World's End[ ]
Cutler Beckett, now in control of Davy Jones by having possession of his heart, was able to kill every pirate lord at sea. Jones later learned that Bilbo Baggins. He had the Hobbit transferred to his cabin to keep an eye on the hobbit should he pull anything. Jones hated Beckett and even killed Ian Mercer. Later, Jack Sparrow, Will Turner, Elizabeth Swann, and Bilbo Baggins confronted Jones on the Flying Dutchman. There, he stabbed Turner after seeing he and Queen Swann were in love with each other. Before he was killed by Bill Turner, Sparrow took Turner's hand and guided it, thus Will was able to stab it. Bilbo sees Jones' eyes before his death as he feels some sort of pity before his greatest enemy falls.
Relationships[ ]
Calypso[ ]
(Former love interest and ex-lover)
- "My heart will always belong to you."
- —Davy Jones' last words to her.
Davy Jones was once in love with Calypso, a woman with mortal blood, but she was also a sea goddess. In dedication of this love, Calypso gave him the duty to ferry those who died at sea. When it was time for them to be together again, she never came. Jones became very enraged and felt betrayed by her. In retaliation, Jones had her bound in her human form forever by the Brethren Court, who swore not to free her whatsoever in the future.
Despite claiming not to love her, Jones still claimed that his heart would always belong to her. However, after learning that she was betrayed by Jones, Calypso turned her wrath to him, but also punished the Brethren Court as well. It is unknown if these two lovers were ever reunited again.
Both of them were portrayed by Bill Nighy and Naomie Harris
Bilbo Baggins[ ]
(Enemy)
He would frequently taunt Bilbo and call him Jack Sparrow's pet, similar to that of a teacher's pet. It wasn't until after learning Baggins had the Mark of Calypso that Jones chose to keep Bilbo alive and safe and unharmed by Beckett.
Elizabeth Swann[ ]
(Enemy)
Just like most allies of Jack Sparrow, Jones despised Elizabeth.
Despite only meeting each other three times, Elizabeth hates Jones, as she only traded Jack enough to kill Jones and free Bootstrap's bonds from Jones' grasp. She also tried to attack him when Jones had Bilbo taken away to the captain's cabins before he was rescued by surprisingly James Norrington
They first met on board the Flying Dutchman, surprised to see her as captain of the Empress and the new pirate Lord of the South China Sea. At first, he seemed to feel some care for Elizabeth's and Will's love, but quickly grew dark again. When he saw that both of them were in love on board the Flying Dutchman, he was delighted in tormenting Swann and Turner, threatening to kill Will at the same time.
