4 Adverbial Clauses of Time 时间状语从句
①when引导的时间状语从句，从句中既可用延续性动词，也可用非延续性动词。通常表示主句和从句的动作同时发生（“这时”），也可以先后发生（“当……的时候”）。 I was going out when a visitor came. 我正要出门，这时有客人来访。 I shall tell her the good news when she comes. 她来时，我将告诉她这个好消息。 这7个小点，没必要个个干讲，可以融入到对文章的再次阅读中。可仅作为备课参考 4

5 Adverbial Clauses of Time 时间状语从句

③before表示主句的动作发生在从句的动作之前； I didn’t know any English before I came here. ④after表示主句的动作发生在从句的动作之后； After he locked the door, he left.

⑤as soon as 引导的时间状语从句，表“一……就……”，强调动作紧密相连。当主句是将来时时，从句用一般现在时，简称“主将从现”；当主句是一般过去时，从句也可以用一般过去时。 I’ll ring you up as soon as I get to Beijing. As soon as she came to the classroom, she began to read English.

9 Adverbial Clauses of Time 时间状语从句
⑥since引导的时间状语从句，表示“自……以来”，从句中的动词一般表示动作的起点，用一般过去时；主句中的动词表示动作延续，一般用现在完成时。但主句总的动词不表示延续，表示目前的状态时，主句可用一般现在时。 I have worked in this school since I graduated from Beijing University. It is twenty years since she joined the club.

10 Adverbial Clauses of Time 时间状语从句
⑦until/till表示一个动作持续到某一时刻 (1)主句的谓语动词是延续性动词时，主句用肯定形式，表示这一动作或状态一直延续到until/till所表示的时间为止。 I’ll wait for you till you come to see me. (2)主句的谓语动词是非延续性动词时，用否定形式表示主语的动作直到until所表示的时间才发生。构成句式not……until, 有时不用not，而用其他如never，nothing等表否定意义的词。 I didn’t go to bed until I finished my homework.

Date and Meaning The Dragon Boat Festival, also called the Duanwu Festival, falls on the fifth day of the fifth month of the lunar year (阴历年). It marks the beginning of the hottest season of the year. Since 2008, Dragon Boat Festival has been celebrated not only as a festival but also a public holiday in China. When this holiday comes, people usually have one day off.

This festival has been held every year for more than 2,000 years since Qu Yuan died in 278 BC. Qu Yuan was a poet who loved his country very much. After his country was taken over by another country, the state of Qin, he was so sad that he drowned (淹死) himself in the river. As soon as the local people heard the bad news, they sailed their boats to search for Qu Yuan’s body. They also threw food such as eggs and Zongzi into the river before his body was found, so that the fish would not eat it.

So, one of the traditions today in the Dragon Boat Festival is racing boats. People race their boats in the shape of dragons to reach the finish end first. In the old days, dragon boat races were held only by Chinese people. However, nowadays, people from other cultures have also taken part in the races and enjoyed themselves. Eating Zongzi is another tradition of this festival. Made with sticky rice in bamboo leaves, it has different shapes and fillings (填充物).
