- 2. CONNECTORS: CAUSE AND EFFECT.
They can use when you want to introduce at the
causes of the text when a sentence serves as the
cause of another.
For example:
- Because
- Because of
- Due to
- Since
- For
- As
- 3. BECAUSE
We use because before a clause (a sentence subject
verb and complement).
For example:
- * The baby is crying because he is hungry.
El bebé está llorando porque tiene hambre.
* I went to sleep because I was tired.
Fuí a dormir porque estaba cansado.
- 4. BECAUSE OF
We use because of when you put the noun after the
reason.
For example:
*They stayed in because of the bad weather.
Ellos se quedaron en casa debido al mal tiempo.
*She can not play sports because of her illness.
Ella no puede hacer deportes debido a su
enfermedad.
- 5. DUE TO/ OWING TO
Due to: means "caused by." It should be used only if it
can be substituted with "caused by."
It does not mean the same as "because of.“
For example:
*The unemployment was high due to the economic
crisis.
El desempleo era alto debido a la crisis
económica.
* They had a delay owing to the traffic jam.
Tuvieron una demora debido al embotellamiento de
tráfico.
- 6. SINCE
For example:
* He won't understand, since he doesn't speak
English.
No entenderá, puesto que no habla inglés.
* They decided to go to sleep, since it was very
late. Decidieron irse a dormir, puesto que era muy
tarde.
- 7. FOR
For example:
* We'll have to stay home, for it is raining outside.
Tendremos que quedarnos en casa porque está
lloviendo afuera.
* She turned on the lights, for she was afraid of the
dark.
Encendió las luces porque tenía miedo a la
oscuridad.
- 8. AS
We use to xpress many things: time, contrast, cause,
etc…
For example:
* She failed to pass the exam, as she made many
mistakes.
No pudo pasar el examen, puesto que cometió muchos
errores.
*They couldn't find us, as they didn't have our address.
No pudieron encontrarnos, ya que no tenían nuestra
dirección.
