Ranking Drake’s biggest hits
With temperatures heating up, so is Drake. The rapper (and sometime singer) is set to make his claim on the summer yet again with his new album “Scorpion,” out Friday. The LP, which features his No. 1 hit “Nice for What,” was not previewed for critics before its release, but chances are there will be a summer jam or two on there, going by his history. Just check out Drake’s past songs of summer, ranked in descending order of hotness, since they’re all hot.
1. “One Dance,” 2016
With a radiant, rhythmic infusion of dancehall and Afrobeat, this No. 1 smash — from Drake’s last proper album, 2016’s “Views” — never fails to put you in a tropical state of mind, even if you’re just hitting the local pool.
2. “Best I Ever Had,” 2009
Drake’s breakout hit began his summer reign with its smooth mix of hip-hop beats, pop-friendly crooning and lyrics that boast both swag and sweetness: “You can have my heart/Or we can share it like the last slice.” Awwww.
3. “Hotline Bling,” 2015
This Grammy-winning single became the booty-call anthem of the season. The timing couldn’t have been better, because in the summer you don’t have to worry about putting on layers of clothing to head out for that late-night loving.
4. “Hold On, We’re Going Home,” 2013
It has a breezy bounce made for grooving around the roller-skating rink, but it works just as well for cruising to the beach. “I want your hot love and emotion endlessly,” Drake sings, perfectly capturing the vibe of summer love — and lust.
5. “Find Your Love,” 2010
Over some eerie electro-R&B, Drake is in full serenade mode on this single from his debut album, “Thank Me Later.” He makes his romantic intentions clear, vowing that “every single summer, I’ll be the one that you remember.”
