World's first automated high-speed train to reach 350 km/h

China's Fuxing bullet trains are expected to reach 350 km/h in an automated mode, setting a record in the world high-speed railway industry, according to Lu Dongfu, the general manager of China Railway Corporation on Wednesday.
The automatic train operation (ATO) system will first be operated on trains running between Beijing and Zhangjiangkou City, one of the host cities of the 2022 Winter Olympics.

"When equipped with the system, the bullet train can automatically depart, move between stations and adjust its speed to meet its precise timetable after a single button is pressed," a researcher from the China Academy of Railway Sciences told the media.
Tests of the automated high-speed system were carried out successfully on railways linking Beijing and Shenyang, Liaoning province, from July to September, with a total mileage of more than 186,000 kilometers.
Entirely designed and manufactured in China, the Fuxing, or Rejuvenation, debuted on the Beijing-Shanghai line on June 26, 2017.
The maximum speed of the trains has reached 350 km/h, cutting the journey between the Chinese capital and the country's major financial hub to four hours and 28 minutes.
By the end of the year, bullet train lines in China will cover 29,000 kilometers, accounting for two-thirds of the world's total.
