Hello, here I am again with a new proposal. Strangely enough, no character from this series has ever been proposed for any kind of status, but here is my proposal of the work's main heroine, Chisato Nishikigi.
What is the work?
Lycoris Recoil is an original action thriller anime series, created by Spider Lily and Asaura, about the DA (Direct Attack), a secret organization that prevents crimes (especially terrorism), and their group of all-girl agents called Lycoris. The couple of protagonists consists of kind-hearted Chisato Nishikigi, a pacifistic individual who shoots enemies with non-lethal bullets and helps and protects people as a main goal, and Takina Inoue, who is somewhat of an antihero at first being rather cold and ruthless, but becomes far more heroic and kind thanks to her partnership and friendship with Chisato.
Who is Chisato Nishikigi?
Chisato is a girl who works as a waitress at the LycoReco, as the café's self-proclaimed poster girl, along with her partner Takina (they have the sensei Mika and co-workers Mizuki and Kurumi); that is, while not going on missions as a Lycoris. While it's stated she's the strongest Lycoris of all time - also thanks to her high intelligence and intuition skills, which make her excellent at prediction of the moves of her opponents - not only she enjoys solving private sector problems that the DA does not address, but most of all her distinguishing trait is that, unlike other Lycoris, Chisato is heavily committed to using exclusively non-lethal means to neutralize her opponents, and even heals them from their wounds after shooting them. Chisato just wants to help people, refuses to kill anyone, and runs an establishment to help the poor and downtrodden in society. She is the one who truly helps Takina in her character development; indeed, they become very close friends, and thanks to Chisato's kindness, Takina becomes a much better, empathetic and selfless person outside and inside their job as government-sponsored counter-terrorism agents.
- Note: Chisato has an artificial heart which is very efficient but has limited life span. It was transplanted into the girl after she collapsed during a training session, due to a congenital heart disease.
Goodness zone / what makes her Pure Good?
Ok, in the "who is the character" section, her kindness and overall noble and admirable qualities are described. Chisato's motto is to make everyone happier, even those who have done her wrong. But here, we get to her deeds. So, why does Chisato set the admirable standard?
Along with Takina, they go on missions to protect the lives of the civilians from dangers and crimes, especially terroristic attacks. Still along with her partner, she saves Saori, a young woman, from a group of stalkers, and she also prevents Takina from killing said group of criminals, by shooting them with non-lethal bullets and healing them from injuries (indeed, it was from that moment that Takina starts to change her mind about her ruthless methods and quits being an assassin).
Then, in episode 5, Chisato saves Takina's life when she's going to be killed by assassin Silent Jin. She keeps rushing in to help others and fighting against evil criminals until her final fight with terrorist Majima, the story's big bad.
Towards the end, it's revealed Chisato needs a new artificial heart to keep living, given her first artificial heart's limited life span, and it's also revealed that the artificial heart that exists has been transplanted into Shinji, the man Chisato considers as her savior and the one who brought her back to life for the first time - though, it was very much that Shinji wanted her to live due to her potential assassin skills, and is very disappointed with Chisato not killing anyone. As Takina knows about the heart, she attacks Shinji, willing to kill him, but then Takina is about to die as Shinji is going to shoot her while she hangs from a ledge, Chisato saves Takina by shooting Shinji (and since she doesn't have her non-lethal weapon, she makes sure she hits him in a non-vital spot).
Of course, still related to the heart issue explained above, what definitely makes her stand out is her willingness to sacrifice herself in the end: where it's revealed that her artificial heart has a limited life span, and it's revealed Shinji has it, Chisato, still considering Shinji as her savior, just finds it terrible that Shinji should die to let herself keep living, so she is willing to die to let Shinji keep living. Though, in the end, Mika arrives and kills Shinji to finally allow the surgery to get the artificial heart transplanted into Chisato.
Corrupting factors?
None I can think of actually. Chisato doesn't kill, just opposes enemies, helps people, is very admirable and constantly kind and selfless, even to a fault. Even her heating-up moments when villainous (or at least very jerkish) characters get on her nerves are very minor, and she never becomes really rude or abrasive, though she's for sure firm on her point and strictly follows her values.
Final verdict
A yes to Chisato hands down, as far as I'm concerned, for her overall kindness, being very admirable and selfless, fighting to protect people, saving lives (especially, often risking her life as Takina does as well to save Chisato) and being willing to sacrifice her life in the end to let Shinji live.
She sets the admirable standard along with Takina, who is instead an approved NPG because unlike Chisato, while she quit being an assassin, she still does have minor moments of lethality.
